Riverside Team Member Stacy Bunin has been supporting NOAA for 26 years, the last four with the NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), in College Park, Maryland. A critical member of the STAR team, Stacy is a scientist and program manager who provides broad support to a diverse set of STAR activities. In her role as program manager for the Research and Technology Maturation for the Exploitation of Emerging Technologies (RTMEE) task, Stacy manages roughly a dozen staff and oversees a number of scientific and technical activities, ranging from satellite data assimilation to website design. Stacy is also a hands-on scientist who develops new approaches for assessing the value of observing systems, and coordinates with other NOAA Line Offices to help NESDIS in planning for the future global satellite constellation. Notably, Stacy recently helped lead an important NOAA workshop series on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for environmental sciences — interfacing with presenters, session chairs, and participants, and adapting to a virtual format with over 141 presenters and 4,000 participants over a seven-month period. Stacy routinely goes above and beyond her regular responsibilities to support STAR’s vision of advancing satellite remote sensing to better inform the public and safeguard the environment.
