Scott Steadley

Program Manager

Scott Steadley, Contract Program Manager (C-PM) for the NCEI Science Support Services (SSS) task order is responsible for leading a team of science application, data, and user engagement professionals supporting NCEI’s critical mission. Scott places a high priority on team building and cohesion while keeping teams squarely focused on customer requirements and satisfaction.

Scott has over 34 years of science and engineering experience, including 28+ years of naval service, both forecasting as well as operating across the spectrum of environmental extremes. During this time, he served as the Chief Weather Office at a remote NATO base in Keflavik, Iceland, the METOC Division Officer (and ship driver) onboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), the Current Operations Officer on a Headquarters staff, overseeing world-wide METOC operations, over three years of planning, programming, and budgeting in the Pentagon, and a capstone command tour as the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory. Following naval service, he invested six years as a contractor gaining proficiency as a system engineer on a high risk, but successful polar-orbiting satellite program. All told, Scott’s experience spans from the highly technical to executive management, contributing valuable insights in his current program management role.

Outside of his day job, Scott enjoys woodworking, biking, hiking, and kayaking along with the surrounding Western NC music scene. He also supports the local community as a volunteer technical rescue tech with the Henderson County Rescue Squad.
