Frequently Asked Questions

Recording

What does “locally recorded” mean?

Each participant’s audio and video are recorded directly on their own device. As the session progresses, Riverside uploads everything to the cloud in the background, in real-time. This ensures studio-quality recordings — even if the internet connection lags or drops. And when you’re done, your files are waiting in your dashboard, ready to download or edit.

So, what recording quality should I expect with Riverside?

As long as your equipment supports it, we’ll record you in up to 4K video and uncompressed 48kHz WAV audio.

What happens if my or my guest’s browser crashes during a session?

Your files are safe, even if something goes wrong. Riverside can withstand browser crashes — just another advantage of recording locally and uploading to the cloud.

Can I record with multiple participants?

Of course. You can record up to 10 participants (9 guests + the host) on separate, high-quality audio and video tracks. All tracks are uploaded directly to your account, so there’s no need for guests to send you their files.

And if you want a bigger audience — no problem. More people can join the session to watch live; they just won’t be recorded.

Do guests need a Riverside account to join the session and be recorded?

Not at all. All they need to do is click the link you send them — no sign-up or installation required.

Can I share my screen while recording?

Definitely. Hosts and guests can share their screen, and each screen share is recorded locally on its own track — just like everything else in the session.

Can I record audio-only sessions?

Absolutely. You can run a session without video, and still get top-tier, locally recorded audio.

Editing

How do I edit my recording?

All you have to do is click on the recording you want to edit. From there, it’s easy. Riverside’s built-in editor automatically generates a transcript, so you can:

  • Edit using the transcript by deleting or moving text — the video updates as you go
  • Use the timeline editor to trim, cut, and adjust, just like in a traditional video editor

You can use both at once, of course. Either way, it’s fast, flexible, and happens right in your browser.

Do I need to download my recordings to edit them?

Nope — Riverside’s editor is built-in, so you can edit right where you record, without downloading a thing.

Prefer to work in Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro? No problem. You can download your raw files or, if you’re on a Business plan, export XML files for a smooth hand-off.

Can I correct the transcript if something’s wrong?

Sure. The transcript works like a living document—you can simply delete and type to correct anything the automatic transcription got wrong.

And if someone mispronounced something, or a stat has changed since the recording and needs updating, you can even regenerate the audio to say it correctly in the speaker’s own voice, tone, and pacing. That feature is called VideoDub, and it even lip-syncs to the new text. It saves you the trouble of re-recording or getting clever with cuts.

Are editing changes destructive?

Not at all. Riverside’s editor is non-destructive, which means your original recording is always safe. You can create multiple versions, test out different edits, or go back to square one whenever you need to.

Can I create social clips from my recording?

Absolutely — that’s where Magic Clips comes in. Riverside’s AI automatically finds the best moments in your recording and turns them into short, shareable clips for social media.

You can also make clips manually, trim them to your liking, and export them in various formats — perfect for repurposing content across platforms.

What other AI features does Riverside have?

A lot. We already mentioned VideoDub — and we’re adding more all the time. Here are just a few more that are built right into the editor:

  • Clean up your audio with one click — removing background noise, silences, and filler words
  • Generate show notes, summaries, and titles based on your recording
  • Automatically switch layouts depending on who’s speaking or how many people are on screen

Can I add visuals, music, or branding to my video?

Definitely. You can add intros, outros, text, images, video overlays, captions, and music tracks — all from the editor.

Riverside also gives you access to built-in stock libraries for music, images, and videos, so you don’t have to hunt for assets elsewhere.

Want to stay on brand? Just set your fonts, colors, and logo once in the Brand Kit, and they’ll apply automatically to every new edit.

Live streaming & Webinars

Can I stream and record at the same time?

Yep — with Riverside, you can go live while recording locally in up to 4K. That means you get smooth, professional-quality content for both your live audience and your on-demand replays — all in one go.

What’s the maximum quality for live streaming?

You can stream in up to 1080p Full HD, depending on your internet speed and the platform you’re streaming to. And even if your connection dips slightly, Riverside automatically adjusts to keep your stream stable and optimized for the highest possible quality.

Is there a waiting room or backstage area for live sessions?

That would be the studio lobby. You can opt between letting everyone in automatically or only by admission.

Guests can also join the studio before the session goes live to check their setup and get ready together with the host.

Can I customize how my livestream looks and brand it with my logo and colors?

Absolutely. You can brand your Riverside studio with your logo, background, and color theme, and it all carries over to your livestream.

Want to change up the layout? You can switch between views like speaker spotlight, grid, and more — all in real-time. Plus, you can add lower thirds to introduce speakers, share info, or highlight key points — just like a professional broadcast.

What engagement features are available during live streams?

First of all, thanks to multichat, you can engage with all your viewers — no matter where they’re watching — from a single, unified chat box inside your studio.

You can also enable audience call-ins, allowing viewers to request to join your live session and speak directly with you.

Depending on your plan, you’ll also have access to real-time Q&As, where you can flag audience questions in the chat, reply directly, and display selected questions on-screen to answer live.

Which platforms can I stream to from Riverside?

You can go live on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, and any platform that supports RTMP. You can also stream to multiple destinations at once — all from the same session.

You can also broadcast directly on Riverside and share a custom link for your audience to watch and interact, no third-party platform required. This one is ideal for webinars.

Oh, I can run a webinar in Riverside?

Yes! Hosting a webinar in Riverside means you get a premium livestream with full branding support — all in up to 1080p.

And because everything is recorded locally in up to 4K, you’re left with a polished final product (not a glitchy replay). It’s instantly ready to edit, share, and repurpose using Riverside’s built-in editor — no third-party tools needed.

Does Riverside support registration and calendar invites?

Yes. You can enable registration to collect names and emails of registrants. You’ll be able to view the full list before and after the session, see exactly who joined, and track attendance — all from your dashboard.

Once someone registers, they’ll receive a confirmation email with a unique join link and calendar links for Google, Outlook, or Yahoo. If you enable that option, they’ll also get reminder emails before the session, a follow-up afterward, and notifications about any changes.

Can I sync with CRMs like HubSpot?

Yes! Riverside currently syncs with HubSpot so you can:

  • Collect standard and custom fields at registration
  • Automatically update contact records (no duplicates)
  • Create static lists by event and attendance status
  • Add Riverside data to contact properties for segmentation and follow-up

More tools and CRM integrations are likely to be added based on demand.

Can the audience see how many people are watching?

The total number of attendees is visible to hosts and producers. Audience members can see it too — but only if you enable that option. Individual identities are never shared.

What’s Async recording?

Async recording lets your guests record on their own schedule — no need to coordinate calendars or join a live session. You simply send them a link, and they can record whenever it’s convenient for them.

They’ll be guided through the process with clear instructions, can record as many takes as they’d like, and even use a built-in teleprompter if you’ve added a script or talking points. It’s a great option for capturing interviews, testimonials, or customer stories without needing to be present.

What kind of security and support does Riverside for Business offer?

Business plans come with enterprise-grade security and premium support to meet organizational needs. You can enable SSO with providers like Okta, Microsoft Azure (Entra ID), or Google Workspace to keep access secure and streamlined. Riverside is also SOC 2 Type II and ISO27001 certified, with IT reviews and procurement processes as needed.

On the support side, Business users get priority assistance, a dedicated customer success manager, and personalized onboarding and training.

What kind of companies and teams use it?

Everyone from Fortune 100s to startups, nonprofits, and universities use Riverside.

As for teams — it’s anyone that needs scalable, professional content creation: Marketing, Comms, Internal Comms, L&D, Creative, and more.

What are the most common use cases?

Executive interviews, product demos, training videos, async testimonials, talking-head content, internal announcements, social clips, onboarding, and webinars.

How does collaboration work in Riverside for Business?

You get a shared workspace with multiple production domains, a centralized dashboard to manage all recordings, and role-based permissions. Roles include Account Owner, Admin, Director, and Editor — each with tailored access based on your team’s setup.

This makes it easy for team members to record simultaneously, collaborate asynchronously, and organize content by department or use case — all without stepping on each other’s toes.

Can I hand off edits to external tools like Premiere or Final Cut?

Absolutely. Business users can export their timeline as a synced XML file, so any edits you make in Riverside carry over for fine-tuning in tools like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
