I suggest Buzzsprout for hobbyists. But with both free and paid options, it can work well for beginners and podcasters looking for more advanced features, too.

Buzzsprout’s strength is its relatively comprehensive analytics. You can track listener demographics, episode performance, and platform distribution. Best all-in-one podcasting platform: Riverside

Price: $0–$24/month (Hosting included with Pro Plan)

Analytics: Basic

Storage: Unlimited hosting, one podcast

If you want a host built into your podcast platform, then Riverside is your all-in-one platform.

You won’t need to download massive files from your recording platform, upload them to an editor, and then upload them again to a host. Record, edit, repurpose, and publish your show without ever leaving the app.

Capture your recording locally with up to 10 remote participants in up to 4K video and 48kHz WAV audio resolution. Then, use the AI editor to enhance your recording in a few clicks. Riverside supports video, and you can also add custom thumbnails for each episode. And to keep track of analytics, you’ll get information on demographics and views.

Hosting is included in the Pro plan. That means you’ve got unlimited storage for your published episodes with no extra hosting fees. Just one subscription to keep your entire workflow within a single dashboard.

Fusebox (originally Smart Podcast Player) aims to offer essential hosting features, and it does this very well. Key features:

  • Access private and professional hosting tools: Blubrry offers tools for networks and businesses, and allows you to create private RSS feeds that can only be accessed by select people.
  • Wordpress integration: Wordpress integration and easy workflow lets you update RSS feeds, tweak SEO tags, and insert episodes directly into Wordpress.

Best YouTube podcast hosting platform: Transistor

Price: $19 - $99 per month

Analytics: Advanced

Storage: Unlimited storage, multiple podcasts

Transistor is actually my favorite podcast host. I particularly like that it’s compatible with Apple Podcasts’ delegated delivery. This means I can upload both my free and paid podcasts from one place.

It’s also one of the few hosts out there that allows you to host as many shows as you want without charging extra.

And if you’re recording audio podcasts but want to still publish on YouTube, then Transistor can do this automatically for you. It’ll convert your podcast into a video with a static image or waveform and automatically post it to your YouTube account.

I suggest recording video from the get-go, though, and with Riverside, it’s just as easy as recording audio. You can even create a video podcast using your phone.

How to choose the best podcast hosting site for you

Choosing a podcast hosting site is also about finding the right partner to grow your podcast and streamline your workflow. Here’s a few tips to help you make a choice that truly supports your goals:

Assess hosting & storage

Most hosting platforms offer either unlimited uploads or storage-based pricing. Consider how much storage you’ll likely need, and use this to determine which options will work for you.

Some hosting sites also have download limits per month, and will move you to a higher-tier plan if your show grows beyond your plan’s limit. Think long-term. A platform that works for a small audience might falter as your podcast grows.

Examine features

Focus on features that impact your growth and save time.

Does the platform offer advanced analytics to help you understand your audience? Can it automate tedious tasks like episode scheduling or transcription?

Tools like dynamic content insertion or SEO optimization can also make a big difference in discoverability and engagement. Prioritize platforms that let you work smarter, not harder.

Assess distribution reach

Podcast hosts have two kinds of distribution: RSS and one-click.

With one-click distribution, you can share your show to all the podcast directories at once. With an RSS feed, you will be given a link and will have to share it individually.

You definitely want to be on major directories like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. But don’t forget niche platforms that might appeal to your target audience. The more directories your podcast reaches, the better your chances of growth.

Consider analytics

Podcast analytics

With analytics you can get:

  • Basic analytics: Expect to get stats like total downloads, episode downloads, and top episodes - and not much more.
  • Advanced analytics: Get more detailed data, like unique listeners, geographic data, and more insight into listening platforms and device types.
  • Detailed analytics: This delves into more granular aspects of listener engagement and behavior, including listener retention, drop-off points, and time-of-day listening.
  • IAB-certified analytics: This follows set standardized metrics to help ensure consistency and accuracy in podcast measurement.

Consider what level of analytics you’ll need. Some hosting sites offer better analytics on higher-level plans.

Understand monetization options

If revenue generation is part of your plan, explore the platform’s monetization options. Consider dynamic ad insertion, listener donation tools, subscription models, and sponsorship management. Know what you’re paying for, what’s included, and which features are likely to work best for your show.

Analyze cost vs. value

My podcast value

Compare pricing plans carefully. Some platforms may seem affordable but lack essential features, leading to hidden costs. For example, platforms with tiered pricing based on downloads might become expensive as your podcast grows. Flat-rate platforms often offer better value for unlimited use.

Try before you buy

Don’t rely on marketing alone - test the software before committing any one platform. Most hosting platforms offer free trials or basic plans. Use this opportunity to test the interface and explore the features to ensure that the platform aligns with your workflow. This hands-on experience is key to avoiding frustration later.

FAQs on best podcast hosting sites and platforms

Why do you need a podcast hosting site?

A hosting platform helps you distribute your podcast to podcast directories like Apple and Spotify. Without it, you’d have to submit each episode to each directory every time you published it!

Podcast hosts also provide storage for your podcast, along with many other tools to help make creating and distributing a podcast easier.

How much is a podcast hosting fee?

This all depends on the podcast host. There are free options, but they often come with limited features and capabilities. Basic plans offering essential features range between $19 - $35 per month. For enterprise and large-scale podcasts, pricing will be more than $100 per month, with custom quotes needed.

Do I need a separate website for my podcast?

A podcast website can be a good way to build your brand and promote your show. Most podcast hosting platforms offer basic customizable websites. If you need more flexibility, you can create a separate website and choose a host that offers embeddable web players or plugins to display your podcast.

Is it free to host a podcast on Spotify?

Yes, Spotify for Creators is totally free! It offers unlimited storage and uploads, monetization tools, and support for video podcasts. Best of all, it integrates with Riverside, so you can record, edit, and share a high-quality podcast all in one place.
